How can we make UNYK better for you?
More and more of you are using UNYK – we’ve just reached 9 million users ! – and that makes us so happy!
Our small team works really to give you the best address book we can… but we still need your comments and continuing feedback to keep making it better. So we want to give you an opportunity to speak your mind! How do you use UNYK? What do you like about it? What is missing? What functionnalities would you like to see added? More interaction? More portability? What do you think UNYK should look like in a year?
Your feedback is really important to us, thanks for your help!

The day you will make it so I can synch my address book at thunderbird with gmail- I will start using your service.
P.s: add to your blog “subscribe to comments” – so I could know yours (and others) response.
Cheers,
Tal.

I second that!
Need thunderbird sync
Need calendar sync
Need gmail sync
Need total field mappings as well as field sizes sufficient to hold incoming sync data (e.g. notes)

Congratulations for your great idea.
I have been using other web services for my contacts administration, but they removed a vital functionality (send your personal cards, diverting from their original purpose) and now I am looking for a replacement.
What I like most of UNYK is its simplicity.
Please take into consideration some of the following respectful recommendations:
1. Don’t try to misleadingly import contacts.
Make it like Facebook, it doesn’t *import* contacts, just “peeps” the address book to know wish contacts *already* are FB (Unyk) members.
2. Better address book handling. It is your *main* functionality, so make it wright ! Add a “Delete” button to the Edit page, add “Tags”.
3. Don’t reset the selected Contacts when changing to the Next Page. Note that Gmail doesn’t clears theselected mails when browsing to the next (or previous) pages.
4. If your application is simple, good and *secure* you will grow. You don’t need to mislead into inviting more contacts than the selected.
When I use the show all (contacts in one page), and select some contacts to invite, when I click “Continue” it shows more contacts than I selected !
It seams like a bug to make me invite more contacts than I want. Can you explain me this issue, please?
—-
I think (again IMHO) that there are simple changes that can be made, but I don’t understand why aren’t already.
For example: I you go to the “Add contacts” Tab, you can convert the list to a single larger list (with the “show all” link) (as opposed to a paged list). This is positive, because it allows to easily identify the contacts to add or delete, without the cumbersome page change. Additionaly because every time you change page, UNYK looses the marked/unmarked information done in the previous page, rendering any selection job useless. Take a look at Gmail, you can mark individual messages, change page, and if youreturn to a previous page, it will show your markings unchanged: they are *persistent*.
Ok in the “Add contacts” there is a “show all” option and you can see at glance both: name and email,so it is easy to spot duplicate records (the ones having both fields identical). BUT, in the “My Contacts” Tab [bonus: My Contacts and Add contacts tabs have different capitalization guidelines, look at the "C" of Contacts]
… *but* in the “My Contacts” Tab you don’t have neither “show all” nor Name *and* Email columns! How can I identify dupplicate contacts??!!!
I spent a lot of time de-duplicating my contacts, that shouldn’t have dupplicated in a first instance. C’mon, you know that it is relatively simple and elemental usability rule not to dupplicate imports, justlook at two simple fields!
Sincerely,
Sp

Thank you Tal for taking the time to write us. We have this comment very often… We definitely want to serve thunderbird users, but we first need to optimize what we already offer, and we are a small team…
We will let you know…
You can also subscribe to the comments in the About menu, on the right column of this blog.

Dear Sp,
Thank you for using UNYK, and thank you so much for your feedback.
I read your message with interest (as all our users comments). This kind of comments are very useful for our small team. We are much smaller than the service you are speaking of, but we grow fast
I will try to answer your different comments and questions:
Contacts import: in the past, we were only doing a “check” as Facebook does, but we had to change this, to answer our users needs. The reason is that we are an address book, and we want to unify all your existing address books in a “meta address book”. If you have to wait that people use UNYK to have them in your address book, UNYK is useless because it is not complete. Our strategy is the following: First, we want to integrate all your contacts. Secondly, we want you to keep your contacts up-to-date without any efforts. Third, we want your address book to be portable and available everywhere (mobile etc.).
“Delete button” and “Tags” on the Edit page: The “delete button” has been added recently. It is a green link, just under the “relationship”. Regarding “tags”, you are right, we do not use them for the moment for “editable contacts”, it is a good suggestion.
“Reset the selected contacts”: it is a bugg, thank you, we are going to fix it ASAP.
“Inviting more contacts than the selected”: same thing, it is a bugg, thank you, it is not supposed to be like this, we are going to fix it ASAP.
“Email column” and “dedupplication”: once again, you are absolutely right! We have chosen this type of display to optimize the performance (speed) of the page, but we will offer more user-friendly options soon. We are also working on a “Dedupper tool”.
So once again, than you very much for your comments, they are always welcome, and we will make our best to answer all of your points.
Sincerely,
Karine, Marketing director of UNYK

hi,
would you please explain how you earn your money?
you handle sensitive data, and i can´t really figure out how you finance your company without using this data, what i would dislike as a possible user.
thx

Hello Fux,
We understand your concern, but wish to reassure you.
As of right now, our company is financed by private investors and advertising revenues. Other sources of revenues will soon be added, including a Premium service offer for professionals, and a possibility to access your address book via mobile phone.
UNYK does not give out, rent or sell any information included in its database. We are certified TrustE and our privacy policy is very clear about this point. We have been in existance for 3 years, and have no interest in ruining our reputation by doing this sort of thing.
Thanks for your trust,
Karine

I’d like to see two way sync with gmail and gmail for personal domains. Two way sync with other major web email providers would be nice. I haven’t tested your duplicate detection yet. But I’m looking for one place to sync all my contacts with from outlook, gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail. So I can change them in any one of those places and it syncs to all of them.
Thank you

Hi benwaynet,
Thanks so much for your comment. Two-way synching is actually something that is in the works, so be patient and check back here often!
Thanks for your support,

Hi.I have just registered andi find the site useful for sharing your personal info ,hopefullyconfidentially as you have reassured. There are a few useful fields i would reccomend for inclusion
a) data regarding your family members which may be shared with permission only.
b) links to some photo album site such as Picaso etc for ease of capturing and sharing moments.
c) would it be possible to link up with hi5,orkut etc as those are also being shared with friends and their is some duplicacy whilst your address book and personal info would synergise with those sites as we wont have to dish out multiple invites to friends to join us on many sites.

Thank you Sudhir for your suggestions.
They are very good ideas, that – for some of them – we have already discussed internally… We are also working on a functionality that will help you to update your personal info on other web sites, from UNYK. We are a small team, so be patient… and do not hesitate to send us more comments or sugestions.

I found your app by googling “plaxo alternative.” Apparently there are not many people taking advantage of Plaxo’s disintegration as an address book platform.
From my experience there is a pent up demand for a “portable address” book that hasn’t been met yet. I only keep MS Outlook for the contact management.
If you can match Plaxo’s core address book functionality (including de-duping) combined with the new portable contacts api I think you could attract customers as well as investors quickly.
I certainly would like a central point to recommend to all my contacts.
Thanks

why do my contacts have to sign up in order to update their info? that is a major draw back.
January 6, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Gee, pedro, maybe it’s because you wouldn’t know _who_ updated your contacts’ information; you could never trust the contact information if there was no registration process.
–I’m not in any way associated with UNYK, Plaxo or Comcast.

Hi,
I am curious about the cost for the service of having the phone synchronised? I cannot find it on your website. Only that it is free the first 60 days.
Moreover will I be able to keep those contacts that are not registered to myself?
September 24, 2009 at 7:01 pm
Hi,
The service is free. There are no more 60 days trial offer !!!!!
THANKS

dear unyk team,
please be patient as i’m a new user and trying to grab on the unyk ropes here… so here goes:
a) i think the 500 sync limit is quite lame. what about users with contacts many times the size?
b) why are there only 2 options only “access to confidential or not” it’s like all or nothing.
c) why do i need to ask for access when i’ve already invited the person? what’s set to public should be at least seen by each other already. it’s like you own your info but have terrible control over it
d) how does one add more categories? i sincerely think that business/friends/family/others is so narrow-sighted especially if you can’t even add custom categories
e) and while managing duplicates, how come unyk discovers the first field as the first name while dumbly suggests the succeeding fields as the “last name” (at the very least this should be the other way around except with suffixes). for example i add the contact “John Vincent ‘JV’ Karine Doe” where John Vincent is his first name, JV is his nickname, Karine his middle name, and Doe is his last name; Unyk recognizes John as the firstname while the rest becomes lastname? not nice
f) {in my opinion} you have to facelift your site, it’s not very appealing.
g) dedicate at least one coordinator in the community for updates, like say twitter or plurk, and especially getsatisfaction

Dear Newbie,
Thank you for your comments. They allow us to improve our service every day…
- Regarding the 500 sync limit, good news, we just increased it to 1000 contacts!
- Regarding the sharing options, we made it this way to keep it simple, but what do you suggest? to personalize the access for each contact?
- Regarding the need to ask for access to public info, you are right, we are planning to change the way it is done, to simplify access to public info…
- Categories: you will soon have the possibility to add some, it’s too limited, we agree with you! Be patient
- We will take into account your other comments…
Thank you,
Karine, marketing dir.

I imported contacts from Outlook. The phone numbers were in (xxx) xxx-xxxx format. Every time I edit and save a contact I get an error message about the phone number format.
ERROR:
Your home telephone number is invalid, Only numbers are accepted.
Your personal cell phone number is not valid, Only numbers are accepted.
Your work cell phone number is not valid, Only numbers are accepted.
If the format is not acceptable then it should not import that way.

Thank you for this comment, you are right.
We need to to remove non-valid caracters during import… It’s on the to do list, be patient!
Best regards, Karine
