New public profiles let you be visible on search engines on your own terms
Our objective has always been the same: letting our users take control of their information, contained in their contacts’ address books. By opening profiles to be indexed by search engines (Google, Yahoo!…) and allowing users to determine what they want to be visible on their public profiles, we take an additional step towards the management of users’ digital identity.
Basically, the public profile can contain all information included in the user’s UNYK profile, except for contact information, which is always reserved to authorized contacts. Through that, we allow users to be visible on the Internet, by letting them be found by web searches.
A word from the UNYK founder on public profiles: “We want our users to be able to use their UNYK profile as their identity online. They can share as much information as they want to be visible to other people. This way, they control their own visibility, and their own online identity. And they are able to make sure that the information visible about them is 100% accurate and up-to-date!”
Public profiles are only the beginning. More features are to come to make them even better! Stay tuned!

Dear Karine,
regarding the white pages and search engines you mentioned in the
article above, I have the following question:
I actually have found somebody on your white pages. Now all contact
information is not included in the profile, as said. As I do not now
my old friends email address, what can I do with this information? I
simply can not ask him for adding me to his contacts because this piece of information is missing.
I understand and appreciate the privacy policy of your system.
Anyhow, may I ask you what is the purpose of the white pages then?
I know there is somebody I look for but still have no means to add him
to my contacts!
Or is it just advertisement for UNYK?
Thank you & best wishes!

Tim,
First of all, thank you for using UNYK, and for helping us make the service even better.
Concerning your question, you are entirely right. Public profiles are only the first step, and we will add the possibility to sen connection requests to people from their public profiles very soon, without having to divulge that person’s contact information. Thank you for your patience and your understanding in this matter.
In the meantime, if you want to find someone, you should try writing to our Client Services, who will easily be able to give you the UNYK ID for any person you are looking for. By adding that UNYK ID to your address book, a connection request will automatically be sent to your friend.
Cheers,
Karine
