Create new contacts directly in your address book

Posted in New features with tags , , on February 21, 2008 by unyk

Finally, a long-awaited new feature is available in your UNYK address book: adding and editing new contacts! It is now possible to create new contacts directly into UNYK, whether they have an email address or not. All you need to do is click on the “Create a contact” icon create-contact.gif in UNYK, and you can edit and save their information directly in your address book, at least until these contacts join UNYK and do it for you!

With this neat new feature, your UNYK address book can now be used to combine all your other address books, even the paper one you have lying next to your phone or the post-it notes full of phone numbers you have everywhere. And this new and improved address book still follows you everywhere… you can access it anywhere with Internet, or by synchronizing it to your mobile phone.

So go ahead, ditch you paper address books and try out our new editing tool. Let us know what you think!

New public profiles let you be visible on search engines on your own terms

Posted in New features with tags , , on February 16, 2008 by unyk

Our objective has always been the same: letting our users take control of their information, contained in their contacts’ address books. By opening profiles to be indexed by search engines (Google, Yahoo!…) and allowing users to determine what they want to be visible on their public profiles, we take an additional step towards the management of users’ digital identity.

Basically, the public profile can contain all information included in the user’s UNYK profile, except for contact information, which is always reserved to authorized contacts. Through that, we allow users to be visible on the Internet, by letting them be found by web searches.

A word from the UNYK founder on public profiles: “We want our users to be able to use their UNYK profile as their identity online. They can share as much information as they want to be visible to other people. This way, they control their own visibility, and their own online identity. And they are able to make sure that the information visible about them is 100% accurate and up-to-date!”

Public profiles are only the beginning. More features are to come to make them even better! Stay tuned!

VYP, the UNYK Facebook app!

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on February 11, 2008 by unyk

very-unyk-person-logo.jpgIntroducing UNYK’s very own Facebook application: very unYk person, or VYP for short. The idea behind VYP is to bring the information-sharing fonctionnality of UNYK’s smart address book to the networks of people assembled on Facebook.

Here is how it works:

  • Users who install the app choose a select number of friends who become their VYP’s.
  • The VYP’s are featured in a box on the user’s profile, and invitations are sent out to them to request their contact information (address, phone number, etc.).
  • From his profile, the user can access all the personal contact information for any VYP that has accepted his invitation. Of course, he would only have access to information that his VYP wants to share with him.

With VYP, Facebook users can share more contact information, which they would not normally have up on their facebook profiles, with only the people they want to. This access to contact information is privileged: No one else but users of VYP who have exchanged information can have access to that personal information.

So go ahead and try it out… and let us know how you like it!

Invite your Facebook friends to UNYK!

Posted in New features with tags , , on February 5, 2008 by unyk

Introducing UNYK’s new Facebook Invite Sender:

This new feature, available in the “Add Contacts” section of your address book, enables you to invite all of your Facebook friends to sign-up to UNYK.com, and lets you add them to your own UNYK address book. This is yet another great way to centralize ALL your contacts in one single address book, and to have access to all of their contact information in one place.

With the Facebook Invite Sender, the UNYK address book becomes a great tool to complement Facebook as a social network. Facebook is indeed great for reconnecting with people you know, but few members are willing to post detailed, personal contact information there. Because UNYK is a site that can be trusted with your contact information, and is great for managing you contacts, Facebook users who sign up to UNYK get the best of both worlds: connect with people on Facebook, and share contact information with them on UNYK!

As this is a brand new feature, we look forward to hearing what you think about it. So try it out and leave us a comment to let us know how you like it!
